An 18-year-old man is in a stable condition after seriously burning himself while setting fire to his HSC notes.

The teenager was on a property in Sydney’s north-west when he put the papers in a bin and an accelerant on the notes to set them alight.

He has been flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition and has suffered burns to his right arm and torso.

It comes as thousands of HSC students across the country received their end of year exam results.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Jennifer Potter tells Ben Fordham the young man is “very, very lucky”.
