We’re being urged to take precautions as heatwave conditions grip Sydney for the next few days.

Temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 39 in the west today, before climbing into the 40s from tomorrow.

The city will be about 10°C cooler.

Weather Bureau Senior Forecaster Jake Phillips says temperatures are well above average.

We’re also being warned about potentially extreme UV levels.

Cancer Council Victoria’s Craig Sinclair says we should slip, slop, slap avoid being outside during the hottest parts of the day.
