Sports Minister: ‘We have lost the capacity to fix Allianz Stadium’

Sports Minister Stuart Ayres joins Alan Jones in studio to update progress on the NSW Stadia Network rebuild.

The Minister explains why Allianz Stadium must be entirely rebuilt, admitting it’s “reached the end of its life”.

“We’ve got building certifiers that simply will not allow us to use the stadium in 2019 unless we make serious and significant investment.

“And that’s where this challenge around rebuilding verse redevelopments becomes a critically important issue for people to understand.

“A lot of people say to me we should just refurbish the stadium. That’s a false economy.

“We have lost the capacity to fix Allianz Stadium, it doesn’t have the appropriate fire, safety and security arrangements, it doesn’t have the appropriate chairs, it doesn’t have enough space for people to be able to evacuate.”

Mr Ayres also details plans to rebuild ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.
