Speed camera operator flouts new rules in Glenorie

Mark Levy

A listener is questioning whether speed camera operators are incentivised to adopt sneaky tactics catching one in a new location.

David wrote to The Ray Hadley Morning Show after a radar was moved 30 metres on Old Northern Road in Glenorie to be “strategically positioned amongst trees, shrubs and poles”.

It had previously been located in the open.

It comes as the NSW government attempts to crack down on stealthy cameras after public backlash to soaring fine revenue.

New protocols for speed camera operators were unveiled during a Budget Estimates hearing last week, barring operators from attempting to conceal their cars.

Cameras must be parked 10-15 metres from the nearest vehicle and their location in relation to changes in speed zones must be checked at base before motorists are pinged.
