Senior Liberal throws support behind Premier after ‘frustrating’ attempted spill
A senior Liberal minister has thrown his support behind Premier Gladys Berejiklian after a failed leadership spill this morning.
Three rogue Liberal MPs were set to move the motion this morning, unhappy at the Premier’s handling of the abortion bill.
But the Premier faced the challenge head-on, demanding any such motion be held as a show of hands rather than a secret ballot.
The move scared off any support for the rebel MPs and killed the plan.
Senior ministers threw their support behind the Premier, including Minister for Planning Rob Stokes.
He tells Ben Fordham the challenge never had the support it needed.
“It wasn’t even a storm in a teacup, it was a drizzle in a thimble.
“It is frustrating but we do understand people have strong views on this issue and it’s an emotional one.”
