An explosive device has been found and disarmed by police after it was discovered in a car at a shopping centre west of Brisbane this morning.

Police say two people were spotted acting suspiciously in Ipswich’s Redbank Plaza shopping centre around 7:15 am.

An emergency situation was declared at 9:15 am, with an exclusion zone from Collingwood Drive, Law Street South, Ipswich Motorway Service Road and Redbank Plaza Service Road being established.

Queensland Police Senior Sergeant Gareth James says police found a cardboard box containing “very suspicious” items in the vehicle on the front passenger side.

A man and a woman have been arrested and are assisting authorities.
