Mark Levy has slammed Qantas for their “unjust” treatment of a customer.

A 2GB listener contacted Mark to share the details.

The man and his wife had already purchased tickets to visit his family in Uruguay in November but sadly his father died due to heart problems in September.

He asked if the airline would let him use one of the tickets he already booked to visit his family as soon as possible due to compassionate reasons.

The Uruguayan national was informed by Qantas that it would cost him $5,500 to convert the ticket.

The airline then put forward the proposition of forfeiting both of their already paid tickets for November, in return for one urgent seat flying out in early September.

“Does this not just highlight the problems with Qantas?” Mark said.

“These executives, they wouldn’t want to be short-changed on their massive bonuses.”

Travel agent Neil believes the current issues facing airlines is “worse than during COVID”.

Neil told Mark Levy the lack of capacity has raised ticket prices.

“The earlier you book, the cheaper it’s going to be, if you decide at the last minute to change for whatever reason, the airline will sell you the highest possible economy airfare because that’s all that’s loaded,” he said.

“It’s not just a Qantas issue, it’s a global issue and it all stems from COVID because of the lack of capacity.”
