Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed the special bond he has with former prime minister John Howard.

After phoning the open-line this afternoon, Mr Morrison tells Ben Fordham he hasn’t heard from Malcolm Turnbull for a while.

But he does have regular contact with John Howard.

“I talk to him every week or two,” the Prime Minister says.

“But sometimes it sort of happens a bit more often than that.

“We’ve had them around for dinner and Mrs Howard is just lovely.”

In the wide-ranging interview with Ben, Mr Morrison also touches on the establishment of an anti-corruption watchdog which was announced today.

The Commonwealth Integrity Commission will combine with existing bodies to investigate wrongdoing in the public sector.

Mr Morrison says establishing the commission wasn’t his “top priority”.

But he knew it was something he’d have to resolve by the year’s end.

“My top priorities were drought and small business and getting taxes down… but it was on the list to get done by the end of the year.”
