Police are praising the behaviour of the majority of New Year’s Eve party-goers in Sydney.

35 people were arrested and charged with a total of 43 offences.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Mark Walton tells Chris Smith most people were well-behaved as they welcomed 2019.

“It is a very complex crowd management task for everyone and we need people to comply with what we ask and overwhelmingly they did last night.”

In the wake of another festival death, Acting Deputy Commissioner Walton says 21 of the 43 charges were drug-related.

Four people were charged with assaulting police and resisting arrest.
