The NSW Police Minister is taking a stand against going soft on ice as the government prepares to debate drug reforms.

The Premier has reportedly backed the proposed reforms which gives drug users a second chance as well as a referral to health or social intervention programs.

The plans will expand the current system of fines handed out at music festivals for possessing small quantities of ecstasy, cocaine, heroin and ketamine.

Police Minister David Elliott told Ben Fordham the reforms are yet to be brought before cabinet.

“I don’t believe that we can accept ice in the same category as marijuana.

“We are not going to solve the ice crisis by giving kids four chances.”
