Race to stop deadly mite found in Australian bee hives

Michael is joined by Stephen Targett, Chairman of the Australian Honey Bee Industry Council, following the recent detection of Varroa mite, the most serious pest of honey bees worldwide, which was found last week in sentinel hives at the port of Newcastle.

Biosecurity zones have been established across Newcastle and the Mid North Coast with more than 600 hives destroyed as Queensland enforces restrictions on the movement of bees into the state.
