NSW and QLD clash in ‘Water of Origin’

Luke Grant

While we all gear up for this week’s  opening State of Origin round, the good people at the Water Industry Operators Association are gearing up for a unique competition of their own.

Logan will this week host the ‘Water of Origin’ – a battle to ascertain which state has the best testing tap water.

Port Macquarie from NSW and Queensland’s Toowoomba will fight it out till the last drop, with adjudicators comparing the samples based on a set criteria.

“The clarity of the samples is one thing. We’ll also encourage them to smell the samples, but ultimately it is a taste test,” says  Craig Mathisen, CEO of the Water Industry Operators Association.

Though the tongue-in-cheek competition is sure to amuse, there is a serious message underpinning the occasion.

“We very much are promoting the work that the operators and providers of the water are doing. For us, it’s a celebration of how they provide safe drinking water to their communities.”
