Luke Grant talks to Leith Van Onselen from Macrobusiness about leading demographer Bob Birrell’s recent report on foreign students & immigration.

Yesterday, the Australian newspaper revealed that Dr Birrell calls for tougher English-­language & financial requirements to be imposed on overseas students to ease the “burden’’ created by immigration on major capital cities.

This is rather than ­“fiddling’’ with the ­nation’s permanent migrant entry programme.

In his report, he finds the influx of overseas students to Australia has overtaken other categories as its main source of net migration.
