Kia Sportage – our fifth best-selling medium SUV under $60,000
SUV’s in February overtook traditional passenger cars in terms of volume, now achieving nearly 40 percent of the total market. Clearly, SUV’s have been adopted by the buying public for their practicality – there utility nature in many ways VERY well suited for our family and outdoor life style. I recently spent some time behind the wheel of Kia’s Sportage. Out of 20 medium sized SUV the Kia Sportage is the fifth best seller with sales up 30 per cent in the first quarter, now the Korean imported brands 2 nd best seller. I tested the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel all-wheel- drive Sportage SLi automatic – at $39,690 one of the dearer models in the range – the entry 2.0-litre petrol Si kicks off the Sportage range at $28,990. For my money a petrol 2WD Si or better equipped SLi would be the better choice – as most Sportage’s find most of their work around the city. Quality on Kia today is impressive plus the benefit of a 7- year unlimited kilometre warranty. I’m David Berthon
