Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine Study

Researchers have finished the first comprehensive profile of a mosquito-borne virus which caused a deadly outbreak in Australia in 2022.

The QIMR Berghofer team has found the rare sub-type of Japanese Encephalitis has potential to cause fatal brain infections.

Rural reporter Georgia Kondek spoke with Senior research officer, Doctor Daniel Rawle who says there’s an urgent need for a new vaccine to better protect against the strain.
