Honda CR-V

Honda’s latest fifth-generation CR-V SUV I drove recently is a big step up, so good in fact that its sales this year are up 169 per cent on the same time last year. Available in four grades in 2 or all-wheel-drive depending on model and the choice of five or 7 seats this latest CR-V is very well positioned to take class leadership – the cabin noticeably bigger –sitting on a 40mm longer wheelbase, with better rear seat legroom and near class-leading rear cargo space. All models have a multi-angle reversing camera, better handling, noticeably better braking and exceptional steering – the electric power steering with just 2.2 turns lock to lock one of the new CR-V’s strong points – so much feel and relaxed turn in it makes driving less tiresome. The 2.0-litre 140kW turbo petrol engine across the range has 240Nm of torque –the figures may mean little but in real terms it means very relaxed motoring with a vastly improved CVT automatic.
