Federal Politics with Dennis Shanahan

Luke Grant

Chris Smith and National Editor of The Australian Dennis Shanahan dissect federal politics of the week
Dennis discusses his news poll analysis piece today that shows Morrison is actually not as badly regarded among women voters as Albanese which is a bit of a turn up for the general expectation.
Scott Morrison and Josh Frydenberg are talking up the economy and Budget measures to try and address cost-of-living measures because that’s an issue which will decide how many people vote. Unemployment is at a record low of 4% and should be translated into benefits for households for the Coalition to really get the electoral boost. Western Australia and South Australia are representing great challenges to Scott Morrison as he campaigns in the West and Steven Marshall faces punishing polls and prospect of being the first Covid leader to be defeated. Defence and security continue to be central to the Coalition’s messages about Ukraine and China as Peter Dutton goes hard on Defence and Morrison unveils more spending. Flood relief continues to be an issue as Labor attacks Morrison for being too slow and the Coalition pushes out funding to help people in Queensland and Northern NSW.
