Easter Road Safety
Maybe you’re heading off over Easter for a break with the family – heading off on Thursday night or Friday morning. Consider the following – the N.S.W. road toll this year is up considerably – 88 people have died on our roads this year compared to 59 for the same period last year – that’s a 49 per cent increase. Of the 88 – 46 were drivers, 11 motorcyclists, 13 passengers, 1 a pedal cyclist and 17 pedestrians. Of the 88 deaths 26 were metropolitan but 62 were in the country. Here, fatigue played a huge part in these terrible country figures. So, if you’re heading off over Easter – please consider your time behind the wheel and your rest periods. We say it with some monotony but ensure you stop, revive and survive. High traffic loads on arterial roads out of Sydney will make driving more demanding. Please consider leaving early Friday rather than after work when you fatigued. One of the big frustrations at Easter time is the failure of many motorist too obey the keep left unless overtaking rule on a dual carriageway above 80km/hour.. Don’t be an Easter bunny and hog the right lane. It causes frustration and frustration causes accidents. Over Easter, failing to keep left when overtaking could cost you $330 and four demerit points. Remember your four times more likely to have fatigue related crash between the hours of 10pm and Dawn. I’m David Berthon
