Before the coronavirus, Australia had to deal with the bubonic plague, which arrived on these shores 121 years ago. A man who jumped ship in Adelaide died in hospital from the plague. Naturally, it spread, with the most significant outbreaks occurring in Sydney in 1900, and then in Sydney and Brisbane two years later. Dr. James Gourley, academic from the University of Western Sydney, spoke to the Two Murrays about the history of the bubonic plague in Australia.
