Anne Pender recalls her times with Barry Humphries while researching for his biography

Luke Grant

Author of Barry Humphries’ biography ‘One Man Show’, Anne reveals the real Barry Humphries – the man behind Sir Les Patterson, Dame Edna Everage and Sandy Stone. She tells Michael McLaren about the serious side of Barry and how he managed to change the cultural cringe around and make fun of Australia’s relationship with the British. He confessed that he was an “equal opportunity insulter to everyone” and being honest and cruel was necessary at times to make people laugh. RIP Barry.
