10th generation Honda Civic arrives

Motor Torque

44 years ago, May 1973, the Honda Civic hatchback arrived in Australia, a delightful small car that captured the hearts of a lot of buyers. A car that went a long way to establishing the Honda brand here. This week, the 10 th generation Honda Civic hatch arrived, a year after the sedan variant – the sedan singlehandedly lifting Civic sales this year by nearly 600 percent, and in April, becoming Honda Australia’s biggest seller. The five-door hatch mimics the front of the sedan but in lieu of a chrome grille it gets a more sombre black piano finish. Big air intakes front and back give the Civic hatch a purposeful look on a five-door hatch body that’s roomy in the rear with impressive load space. Five models, VTi and VTiS powered by a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated engine, the top three models VT-L, Sporty RS and top-line VTi-LX get a livelier 1.5-litre turbo – all five models linked to a CVT or continuously variable automatic.
