Many Australians will be focusing on their fitness as a New Year’s resolution in 2019.

But after a few months of hard work, some can be in danger of falling off the wagon.

Fitness expert Ray Kelly joins John Stanley with some tips for those wanting to get healthier in the New Year.

The exercise physiologist says it’s essential to focus on fresh food and what works best for the individual.

“One thing I learned a long time ago is we’ve got to keep it simple.

“It’s not because people aren’t smart, it’s because it’s difficult to fit into our lifestyle.”

When it comes to exercise, Mr Kelly advocates for a steady approach at first.

“What you want to be trying to aim for is 20-30 minutes a day… just simply walking.

“It doesn’t have to be up hills or anything. It’ll lay a foundation and once you start feeling good you’ll be surprised at how much more motivated you’ll be to actually up the ante.”
