Doctors and pharmacists are at odds over the usefulness of walk-in health checks at pharmacies.

The walk-in tests at some pharmacy chains include a range of health checks.

Spokesperson for Australian College of General Practitioners Dr Michael Clements says a GP who keeps track of your medical history is still the safest option.

But NSW Pharmacy Guild President David Heffernan rejects the claim, telling Chris Kenny the warnings are just doctors trying to get more money from our patients.

He says the programs are designed to help the public and pharmacists are qualified to administer health advice.

“We’re the most accessible health profession. You can just walk off the street, go and ask for your pharmacist and get some advice.”
