Senator Matt Canavan has hit back at the French as fresh accusations emerge over the controversial submarine deal.

France’s Ambassador to Australia said the dumping of the $90 billion submarine deal was a “stab in the back” and the “deceit was intentional”.

“It’s like our spurned lover,” Mr Canavan told Ben Fordham.

“We didn’t sign a marriage contract with a French company … it was a business deal.

“They need to get over it and let’s move on.”
