One man has died and another person is critically injured following a house fire in the Illawarra.

Police and firefighters pulled an 84-year-old man and his 53-year-old son from a home at Mount Warrigal on Thursday night.

Emergency services performed CPR on the elderly man but he couldn’t be saved.

His son is suffering from severe burns and has been transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Four police officers have also been treated for smoke inhalation.

The house has been destroyed by the blaze and an investigation is underway.
