In a stunning about-face, the NSW Government has decided NOT to go ahead with the promised knock-down and rebuild of ANZ Stadium.

Cabinet has received business cases for both the Allianz and ANZ Stadium redevelopments.

Ray Hadley received a tip-off that Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Sports Minister Stuart Ayres will no longer proceed with the knock-down and rebuild of ANZ Stadium, as promised repeatedly.

They will instead spend $800 million to refurbish the stadium, converting it to a rectangular venue.

They will proceed with a full knock down, rebuild of Allianz Stadium at a cost of $730 million.

Director of Western Sydney Business Chamber David Borger campaigned heavily for ANZ stadium to be prioritised in the government’s stadia plan, telling Chris Smith today’s backtrack is disappointing.

“It’s not easy or cheap to bring those seats forward but it’s important if we want to have exciting games and future-proof the big blockbuster events in Sydney that really generate revenue,” he says.
