Department of Education wants to rewrite ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’

Ben Fordham comments

Beloved children’s book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ is under threat by the NSW Department of Education.

An edict has been issued for parents to “Retell or re-create the story using the healthy foods that they like to eat.”

It comes amid concerns the storyline of the caterpillar getting a tummy ache from eating lots of food sends an unhealthy message.

“It’s been around 50 years – millions of kids have grown up reading it,” Ben said.

“It’s not April 1, it’s the 3rd of June, by the way – this is fair dinkum.”
