NSW and Cronulla star Nicho Hynes has credited his club coach Craig Fitzgibbon for his remarkable rise which will culminate in a State of Origin debut on Wednesday.

Hynes won a Dally M Medal last season in his first year at Cronulla – the club which Fitzgibbon signed him to – after the 26-year-old first burst onto the scene at the Storm.

Earlier this week, Hynes told The Continuous Call Team Executive Producer Andrew Lucas, Fitzgibbon’s support has been a key reason behind his success.

“He’s enormous,” Hynes said.

“I’m sort of someone that lacked a bit of confidence early days and ever since I spoke to him day one, he has instilled so much confidence in me and has just backed me to the hills.

“From that day on, I just wanted to play for him and build such a good relationship with him.”

NSW takes on Queensland in game one of the series at Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
