New report exposes community sport funding crisis

A report is highlighting a funding crisis within community sport across the state.
Sport New South Wales claims funding for organisations has remained at the same level as it was during the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
It has also found a lack of facilities is so bad, about 10,000 children who want to play basketball are turned away each year.
Sport NSW chairman Chris Hall told Deborah Knight sport organisations in NSW aren’t receiving enough funding, despite more people joining community clubs.
“If you look at sports like volleyball, it only get $15,000 from the state government to keep it alive, compared to Queensland which receives $231,000.”
