New figures show shocking amount of Newstart recipients aren’t looking for work

New figures reveal 78 per cent of Newstart recipients have had their payment suspended at least once over the past financial year.
Payments are put on hold if people fail to search for work or attend job interviews.
The government has released the figures, as it comes under pressure to raise the unemployment benefit by at least $75 a week.
Employment Minister Michaela Cash tells Steve Price recipients need to live up to obligations.
“As an unemployed person you’re either actively looking for work… or alternatively, you’re participating in an activity that will help you into employment.
“That’s what your mutual obligation is all about.”
