Nationals Deputy Leader warns against water buybacks
Deputy Leader of the Nationals and Shadow Minister for Water and Emergency Management, Senator Perin Davey, has shared her perspective on the Labor government’s plan to buy back water.
Davey elucidated the ripple effect of implementing water buybacks on the broader community.
“[Buybacks] hurting communities is not about the farmers, because [they can potentially] sell their water, and they will get compensated”, she explained.
“The people who don’t get compensated are the truckies, the rice millers, the dairy processors, the agronomists and the contractors; those people don’t get compensated, they just get redundancy letters”.
