Amid the continuing strike chaos, the rail union have announced more strike action beginning on Thursday next week.

The NSW Employee Relations Minister Damien Tudehope maintains the government have supplied assurance that all train safety issues will be rectified, however he believes the new round of strikes are about more than just train safety.

“We have provided the union correspondence confirming that the alterations will be done to the trains,” he told Jim Wilson.

“They still maintain that they want further evidence in relation to the carrying out of that work.

“This is not about the trains, it’s about a 16.5 per cent pay rise.”

This follows the NSW transport minister David Elliot making a public announcement that he would resign if the safety issues on the trains are not rectified.

RTBU NSW Secretary Alex Classens also joined Jim Wilson, defending the RTBU’s decision to strike in a fiery exchange.

“We’re all been fighting for six years to get this bloody train fixed,” he said.

“All they need to do is sign a piece of paper that says ‘we’re going to fix this rotten train’.”

“We have  said consistently … we don’t want to talk about money until we sort out the unsafe train.”
