Australian tennis legend Margaret Court has been snubbed by Tennis Australia as they prepare for this year’s Australian Open.

It’s been confirmed Court will not be presenting the women’s singles trophy to the winner of the 2020 Australian Open, despite it being the 50th anniversary of the year she won the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open in the same calendar year.

Tennis Australia has previously been critical of Court’s religious views on same-sex marriage and transgender people, which they say have “demeaned and hurt many in our community.”

But they say they still plan to celebrate her achievements in other ways.

Mark Levy says she should be allowed to present the trophy regardless of her personal views.

“The PC brigade is celebrating another victory.

“Don’t we live in a country where people are free to express their opinions on a whole range of issues?

“I don’t agree with Margaret Court’s views, I don’t. But I still respect the freedom of someone to speak their mind and not be silenced by a sporting organisation.”
