When one New Zealander received an email from his boss requesting a meeting about his future, he knew exactly what action to take next.

Sensing he was about to lose his job as a copywriter, comedian Josh Thompson decided to inject some fun into the situation by hiring an ’emotional support clown’ to attend his redundancy meeting with him.

Under New Zealand law, employees are entitled to bring a support person into a redundancy meeting.

While most would take a friend or family member, Josh was joined by a clown who made balloon animals and mimed crying while his boss broke the bad news.

Josh tells Ben Fordham he has absolutely no regrets about hiring the $200 professional clown.

“It wasn’t cheap but there are some things money can’t buy.”
