Liberal MP dodges questions on leadership speculation
Australia could see its sixth Prime Minister in eleven years if leadership spill speculation is accurate.
Rumours are continuing to circulate about Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton’s apparent push for the top job.
“I think we all know it’s on,” Ben Fordham says.
The leadership challenge speculation comes at the same time Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull retreats from plans to legislate emissions reduction targets through the National Energy Guarantee.
Despite the policy shift to ease tensions within the party Mr Turnbull may still be in for a fight with his latest concessions being seen as too little too late.
Liberal MP and Chair of the Backbench Energy Committee, Craig Kelly, attempted to dodge Ben Fordham’s questions on the leadership spill speculation.
“As I understand, tomorrow will be all about the policy, and that’s what I am focused on down here,” Mr Kelly says.
“Unless we get the policy right it doesn’t matter who leads us to the next election. If we get the policy right I believe we can win this election very well.”
