There are new major developments in the case where Australian war veteran, Heston Russell, is suing the ABC and journalists Mark Willacy and Josh Robertson for defamation.

Mr Russell launched legal action over a television and online report from November 2021, which accuses two Australian soldiers of murdering Afghan prisoners under his command.

The ABC has had to remove some of its most serious allegations against Mr Russell, abandoning their defences of “truth” and “contextual truth”.

“Their truth defence is toast,” said Ben.
