Queensland Health Minister caught lying and manipulating public poll
The family of Lady Phyllis Cilento says it’s disgusted with the behaviour of the Queensland Government in changing the name of the Children’s Hospital.
An online poll to remove Lady Cilento’s name from the hospital received 38,000 votes, with a majority calling for change.
But it’s since been revealed by Channel 9 that the vote was rigged, with 18,000 of those votes coming from just 74 IP addresses, including many from within the office of Health Minister Steven Miles.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is standing by Dr Miles, despite growing evidence he manipulated the poll and has repeatedly lied to the Cilento family, and the public.
Lady Cilento’s granddaughter Giovanna Volpe-Cilento is furious the government is smearing the memory of a great woman.
“I just find it unbelievable that a minister of the crown, that swore to uphold and defend and look after the people of Queensland, does so by lying.
“I didn’t know that was one of the values you had to have as a minister.”

So why is the government so determined to smear the name of Lady Cilento?
After all, she was an incredible woman and well ahead of her time in the medical world.
Most importantly, Lady Cilento advocated for the legalisation of contraception and abortion, among an array of other vital issues.
Well, the Labor Party built the hospital but Liberal Premier Campbell Newman was in government when it came time to name it.
Giovanna is certain this whole campaign is about settling a political score.
“Absolutely. And you know we’re just a family and we’re up against an entire government.”
Ray Hadley says he will not rest until the Palaszczuk government has paid for its disgusting behaviour.
“That’s what you’ve got in Queensland, a crook government who are doing things for spite, not for the good of the Queensland people.”
