Johnathan Thurston has a dig at Mitchell Pearce: ‘We can bring him unstuck’

Johnathan Thurston won countless games for Queensland on the field and now he’s trying to do the same from retirement.

The Origin legend will be commentating for Channel Nine on tonight’s decider at ANZ Stadium.

There’s no point pretending though, he’s a Maroon through and through and is doing his best to unnerve a key Blues player.

Thurston tells Steve Price there’s “no doubt” New South Wales halfback Mitchell Pearce will be targeted.

“He’s been the whipping boy for NSW at times.

“He came into this Origin side as a really young player and played against probably the best ever Origin side through that period.

“No doubt he’ll have some psychological scars from that and I think if we can apply a bit of pressure, hopefully, we can bring him unstuck.”

Thurston went on to pay tribute to his former representative teammate Cameron Smith.

The Melbourne Storm skipper will run out for his 400th NRL game on Saturday night.

Thurston became emotional as he spoke about his great mate’s achievements.

“It’s remarkable! He’s done it all.

“He’s the greatest player I’ve played alongside and I get a little bit emotional talking about it because he’s been a big part of my life.”
