Jim Wilson has slammed Defence Minister Richard Marles for “snubbing” Vietnam Veterans on Vietnam Veterans Day last week.

Mr Marles sent out a post on his Instagram and Facebook pages but there was no media conference and no official press release.

“It’s an appalling snub of our veterans on an important day and to make matters worse, the very next day, the defence minister sent out an official release spruiking to the world that he’d joined a training session with defence personnel as part of an AFL Women’s competition promotion,” Jim said

“So he found the time to put his Geelong footy club gear on and have a kick around prompting an official media release on formal letterhead but zilch on our Vietnam veterans.

“Talk about shabby treatment of our men and women who fought for our country.”

Shadow Defence Minister Andrew Hastie says the “government needs to have a good look at themselves and reconsider their position”.

Mr Hastie told Jim Wilson the actions of Richard Marles show that he needs to “lift his game”.
