Independent Senator for Tasmania Jacqui Lambie has hit out at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs as thousands are left waiting to be paid.

There are currently more than 60,000 veterans waiting to have their claims heard by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

The Veterans’ Affairs Minister told Ben Fordham in May that the major delays in processing claims would be cleared by the end of the month.

Veterans’ daily service providers are also being left months behind on payments.

“They’ve failed in their duty … there’s no other way of putting it,” Ben said.

Jacqui Lambie told Ben “it’s absolutely horrendous”.

“The claims processing times have moved out to two years!”
