‘It’s stupid!’: Chris O’Keefe slams oval named after corrupt politician
Chris O’Keefe has slammed an oval being named after Rex Jackson in Helensburgh.
The District Court found that Minister Jackson accepted a bribe of $12,000 in 1983.
Adding on, Mr Jackson was caught organising the early release of three prisoners.
Effectively, he was placed in jail for three years.
Chris O’Keefe is calling for the name of the oval to be changed immediately.
“You can’t rewrite history, but I’m sure there are other people that can be immortalised and lionised, rather than a corrupt former minister, whose shameful actions deserve to remain a footnote in history,” Chris said.
“Because right now, this legacy has been set in stone, and is a reminder for anyone that plays a sport at Rex Jackson Oval in Helensburgh.
“It’s wrong, it’s stupid and needs to be changed.”
