‘It breaks my heart to talk about it’: Devastated investors left with nothing

Alan Jones is keeping up the fight on behalf of devastated Nucoal investors who have been decimated by the NSW government.

Four years ago, then-premier Barry O’Farrell ripped up the licence for a proposed coal mine at Doyles Creek in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Nucoal bought the mining licence for $94 million and has repeatedly been found to have done nothing wrong.

But when the licence was withdrawn, due to others’ misdeeds, Nucoal and its shareholders weren’t compensated.

“This goes right to the heart of what Australians stand for,” Alan says.

Nucoal estimates its Australian and US shareholders have lost $306 million.

Father of four Peter Harvey is one of those shareholders and tells Alan the investment was to help pay for his disabled daughter.

“It breaks my heart to talk about it. What the NSW Government has done to my family is absolutely absurd.

Darryl and Michelle are two other investors who now fear for the future.

“This was never about us becoming wealthy. We are just average people trying to get ahead.”
