Would-be travellers are being warned to double-check their insurance policies before committing to overseas holidays.

Insurance Council of Australia CEO Andrew Hall told Deborah Knight getting vaccinated is the best protection for your health when you travel, but refunds for cancellations caused by future border closures are likely off the table.

“By and large, pandemic coverage is excluded from business and from travel policies.

“That’s why governments need to provide certainty; they can’t rely on the private insurance market to pay out people’s tickets every time they close the border.”
