‘I just want to see water’: This farmer’s wish is about to come true

Glenda Grey has had dreams about being surrounded by water.

The farmer from Miles in western Queensland has been staring out at dusty paddocks for far too long.

The situation on the land has become so dire, she and her husband are having to buy all the feed for their cattle.

And with a hot and dry summer just around the corner, Glenda tells Chris Smith it’s only going to get harder.

“There have been droughts,” she says. “But none that have lasted this long.”

Farmers across the country are in desperate need of money, water and feed. But they’re also in need of a holiday for their mental wellbeing.

P&O Cruises has joined forces with Buy a Bale, offering 85 cabins to struggling farmers who need to escape their hardships for a while.

Glenda is one of the lucky winners and she tells Chris she dreams of being surrounded by water.

“Someone asked me a while ago what I’d do if I won the lotto,” she says.

“My answer was feed the cows and jump on a boat!”

Glenda says she’s been overwhelmed by Buy A Bale’s support over the years, saying they are a reminder that good and kind people exist in the world.

“They came to our rescue back then and they were the most helpful folk.

“Suddenly we weren’t alone and we felt so alone before that.”
