A Former Submariner has revealed the truth about his difficult yet rewarding job.

Former Communications and Information Systems Submariner with Royal Australian Navy, Caleb Joice applied for the Navy straight out high school.

He made the concrete decision to later apply and become a submariner after hearing it was a challenging role.

Caleb told Deborah Knight that the living conditions were “tight” as there were no place where you could walk past someone without having to “squeeze” past each other.

Deborah Knight: Do you have to have a love of the water? Well, probably not because you don’t see much of it, you’re inside!

Caleb Joice: No, that’s right. I get sea sick! On the submarine as soon as you dive it’s like being on an airplane…
