Christine Forster has been attacked at a fundraiser for her brother, former Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Sydney on Friday.

Protesters from the Refugee Action Coalition swarmed the entrance to the event at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern, knowing Immigration Minister Peter Dutton was attending.

When Ms Forster and her partner arrived, she was set upon by the crowd of around 200.

She was allegedly spat at and had her jacket torn to shreds.

New South Wales Police Minister Troy Grant has condemned the violent and out of control protesters, telling 2GB’s Alan Jones it was “absolutely despicable, vulgar, unacceptable on any level.”

“They’ll be held to the full account of the law. Every single one of them. A number of them are being identified at the moment”.

Alan Jones has hit out at police over their handling of the demonstration questioning how the mob was able to get so close to guests, “you seem to be excusing the performance of the police.  There is a police commissioner… what the hell was he doing about all of this?”

But Mr Grant is standing by officers, “There were that many of them that just simply broke the law. We cannot control every single person’s behaviour in this world Alan, and you’ve got to understand that. Police did the best they could.”

“Their best is not good enough!”

A full review into the incident will be conducted, with the Police Minister agreeing to return on Alan’s program when it is completed.
