HIT OR MISS? NRL announces Grand Final entertainment
Each year, one of the most controversial decisions in all of sport is the Grand Final entertainment.
Countless disasters – think Meat Loaf in the AFL and Billy Idol in the NRL – have left administrators in fear and fans waiting with bated breath, rotten fruit in hand.
Well, the NRL has jumped first, announcing US band One Republic as this year’s headline act.
Fans will know their biggest hit, Counting Stars, which has more than 2.8 billion views on YouTube and almost 900 million streams on Spotify.
Lead singer Ryan Tedder says he’s “enamoured by Rugby League” and “can’t wait to be a part of it.
“I’ve worked with enough Australians over the years and been down there enough and watched enough games.
“The physicality of it is mind blowing. We’re honoured to be invited to the party.”
