Hinch had a hunch, and his hunch was correct

Article image for Hinch had a hunch, and his hunch was correct

Hinch had a hunch, and this time it’s come off.

Senator Derryn Hinch called the outcome of today’s leadership spill well before the Liberal party room was called.

He says he knew Peter Dutton wasn’t going to get over the line, and Scott Morrison would be successful.

It seems he was spot on.

Scott Morrison won the Liberal leadership over Peter Dutton on Friday afternoon, 45 votes to 40.

“Once the spill motion had 40 people opposed to the spill, you knew that Dutton didn’t have the majority.

“And so you knew, that of the other two people in the field, he wasn’t going to get many of them.”

Senator Hinch says if he were in Scott Morrison’s shoes, he would offer Peter Dutton the home affairs portfolio and return Tony Abbott to the frontbench.

He says if Mr Abbott was on the frontbench, he would have to be “more discrete”.

The senator suggests Julie Bishop should stay on as foreign minister.
