Earlier this month, Ray Hadley received a copy of a coronial inquest into the 2011 death of an prisoner in South Australia.

28-year-old Mark William Payne committed suicide in his cell despite an order stating the minor offender should have been under constant camera surveillance.

He wasn’t and was dead for some time before guards became aware.

The death was ruled as preventable, with Coroner Mark John delivering a scathing rebuke of Mr Severin.

“In short, I cannot find words adequate to express my disgust, horror and dismay…

“Neither in his evidence, nor his statement, nor in his submissions did Mr Severin offer so much as an expression of regret at Mr Payne’s death.”

The coroner recommended Mr Severin be sacked… instead, he’s now in charge of the largest prison population in the country.

Ray Hadley has since been contacted by Mark Payne’s grieving mother, Pam.

She tells Ray her family never received so much as an expression of remorse from Peter Severin.

“No. Never,” says Pam.

“What a horrible man, he didn’t care how many other people this could happen to.

“He’s just an awful person. He should have been sacked.”
