Finance Minister Mathias Cormann won’t give up on company tax cuts

The Finance Minister admits the government will have to work harder to secure support in the Senate for its company tax cuts.

A vote on the changes won’t go ahead until at least next month after government negotiators failed to win over two crossbench senators – Victoria’s Derryn Hinch and South Australia’s Tim Storer.

Matthias Cormann tells Alan says they’re close to getting the nine votes needed.

“We secured a consensus with seven senators on the cross bench in support of our company tax cuts.

“We will keep working, I’m hopeful we will be able to persuade another two in order to get there in time for the next sitting week in May.”
